Please take the time to read this, animals across the country and world need your help. To my watchers, I'd like final revisions, as this will be sent as a news item shortly.

There are many reasons why a pet may lose his or her home. Moving, illness, financial reasons to name a few. There are so many of us out there that are able to help, either by volunteering, donating money and/or supplies, posting flyers and even talking to friends, family and neighbors about ways they can help. Part of the problem is the lack of assistance. Some of you reading this now you may be thinking..

"It won't fix everything, there will still be homeless pets whether I help or not."

Isn't saving the life of just one worth it? Would you save your own pets life if you could?

I think the answer would be a resounding YES! One person can help, one person WILL make a difference!

You would help out a friend, or a family member in need. So why not do the same for a pet? A pet that just wants to be loved, given a home rather than a cage, who wants affection and will return the affection to you. Pets give us laughter, joy, comfort and happiness. Isn't this what we love in ourselves as humans? We are all alive, we have feelings, we feel pain and we all want a good life. A cat or dog is not meant to live in a cage, they want a house or apartment just like we do. How would you feel if you were in their situation? Sad to think about, isn't it?

Remember, they cannot help themselves like we do. They cannot find a better place on their own, they rely on us. Please adopt a pet and give them a good life, there is no reason to wait. Waiting just wastes a day. Waiting means that animal will have to spend another day in a cage, instead of sitting in your lap or playing in your yard. We've all probably missed an opportunity somewhere in life by waiting or procrastinating, if we wait to give them a home, the cost could and will be the loss of an animal's life.

For those of you who cannot have pets, here's a few examples of ways you can still help:

1) Do you have an elderly neighbor or family member? Ask them if they would like a companion, or if they would be willing to foster an animal. You would be helping 2 lives at the same time!!

2)Do you know someone (possibly yourself) that is going through a tough time in their life? A pet brings years and years of happiness, great memories, laughter and friendship.

3)Did you recently lose a beloved pet? While very sad, it's also the opportunity to give another pet a chance at life. The loss of one may be the home of another.

4) Do you have a pet at home now? Get them a buddy!!! Maybe the pet wants a friend like them, maybe they feel alone due to being the only one of their kind in a household.

5) DONATE!! Shelters are always looking for help. It doesn't have to be money. Do you have toys your pets don't play with anymore? Give them to a shelter so that another animal can enjoy them. It's so much better than just throwing the toy away. A blanket will give a pet a comfortable bed. If you don't know what to donate, visit your shelters website while you're online, as they often have lists of current needs. Remember, the shelters rely on our help, they are non-profit and can't help the pets without us helping them.

Fostering is another EXCELLENT option, especially if you don't think you can afford a pet. Many fostering places will provide food, litter, veterinarian care until a permanent home can be found. It could be months or even just a few days. This keeps the pets in a loving home rather than a cage, keeps shelters from becoming full, and gives you the chance to SEE the difference you are making!! I highly suggest this, and a link at the bottom will be provided to find organizations in your specific area (including phone numbers and directions, all you have to do is enter your zipcode!) Many kittens also need fostering this time of year, and if you've ever been around a kitten you know how much joy it brings you to watch it play. It's the care the animals need, without the financial burden on yourself. It's as good for you as it is for the pets!!! Here is a link where you will find information on who to call or visit about fostering a pet..

You can also donate your time in the shelters themselves! Shelters always need more volunteers. Volunteers keep costs down, which leads to better conditions for the pets, more money goes to the pets life than to pay for full-time help. This doesn't mean you'll be cleaning. You can donate your time to playing with the animals, holding them, walking them and simply giving them time outside of their cages. This is what we would want someone to do for us right? This is what you would do for your own pet. Sounds like a good way to spend a rainy day to me, your kids will love you for it too!

Money donations do not have to be 100's of dollars. If you have a pet, you know how little food costs for one meal. Even $10.00 will make a huge difference!!! I can assure you that a donation to your local Humane Society will bring you more self-happiness than spending the money on a temporary pleasure for yourself. Think of what it could give. Food, a new bed, a new toy, special formulas for a kitten, medication for a pet in pain. We know $10.00 or so isn't much, give it to a pet that will see your love!

Your local shelters are usually not far from home, and a great place to bring a smile on your face, they faces of the people you care about, and of course, the pets themselves! Here are a couple links where you can find your local shelter. Check them out while you are online! The pets are depending on you...I ask that you at least browse some of the photos on their site of animals in need, it only takes a few minutes!

Take the 10 second pledge to end animal cruelty, will you fight for them?

10 seconds to fight animal cruelty

Last but not least, is spaying/neutering. Many of the homeless animals are due to the lack thereof. Not only will it limit the pet population, it provides health benefits for male and females alike. Most importantly though, MILLIONS of pets are euthanized or suffer as strays because of over population. This is completely avoidable, these animals don't need to and shouldn't suffer. The link below is to your local ASPCA, which offers low-cost spaying/neutering for your pets!

Considering that you've read this, it means you are interested in bettering an animals life either by adoption, fostering, or donating time or items. Don't wait, every day that goes by is another that the pet and yourself you won't get back, help out an animal now, and bring happiness to you and your loved ones in the process!!

Save an animal's life, and feel great about your donations!!!

Sincerely,

Tim Seydell.
